دیو و دلبر

پدر دلبر، دختری روستایی که با دو خواهرش زندگی می کند، با اسبش در جنگلی گم می شود و سر از قصری مرموز در می آورد. به خاطر چیدن گلی از داخل باغ قصر صاحب قصر، که دیوی زشت رو است، پدر دلبر مجبور می شود دلبر را برای زندگی به قصر دیو فرستد. دیو تلاش می کند دل دلبر را به دست بیاورد.
A rich man lives in a big city near the sea. He has got three daughters and three sons.
مرد ثروتمندی در خانه ای بزرگ نزدیک دریا زندگی می کند. او سه دختر و سه پسر دارد.

‘Beauty’ daughter is called One because she is very beautiful. The other two daughters are called Rosalind and Hortensia. They are lazy and unfriendly. They like going out and having fun. They both want to find a rich husband. They do not like Beauty because she is beautiful.

Beauty has got long red hair. She is kind and friendly. She likes staying at home and reading books. She also likes playing the piano.

Beauty’s father is a merchant. One day he loses all his money because his ship is lost at sea.
پدر دلبر تاجر است. یک روز او تمام ثروتش را از دست می دهد چون کشتی اش در دریا گم می شود.
‘My dear children,’ he says sadly, ‘I haven’t got much money. We’re poor. We must leave this big house and go and live in the country.’
او با ناراحتی می گوید «فرزندان عزیز من، من پول زیادی ندارم. ما فقیر هستیم. ما باید این خانه بزرگ را ترک کنیم و برویم حومه شهر زندگی کنیم.»
‘Oh, dear!’ say the two sisters. ‘We’re poor – this is terrible!’

‘What bad luck!’ say the three brothers.

‘We have to work now,’ says Beauty’s father.

Beauty is sad but she says, ‘Let’s not cry! We can work and be happy without money.’

The family goes to the country and lives in a small house. Beauty gets up at four o’clock every morning to clean the house and cook. Then she washes the family’s clothes in the river. The three brothers work in the country.

Rosalind and Hortensia do not work. They do nothing all day. They sleep all morning and walk in the woods in the afternoon.

‘I’m unhappy,’ says Rosalind. ‘I don’t like the country because there’s nothing to do.’

‘We can’t go to the theatre and wear nice clothes,’ says Hortensia. ‘And we haven’t got any friends.’

Beauty’s father says, ‘Dear Beauty, you work a lot and you’re always happy. You’re a wonderful daughter.’

A year later Beauty’s father gets an important letter. He calls his six children and says, ‘Listen to this letter:’

Beauty’s father gets to the port and finds his ship. But there are no goods on it – it is empty!

‘What bad luck!’ he says angrily. ‘I must go home and tell the children the bad news.’

On the way home he crosses a big forest. It is snowing and windy. He is lost.

‘Where am I?’ he thinks. ‘Where can I go? I’m very cold and tired.’ He hears some wolves and he is afraid. Suddenly he sees a big castle in the forest. And there are lights in the windows.

He takes his horse to the stable near the castle. He knocks on the big door of the castle but no one answers. He waits outside the door. Then he opens the door and goes inside. He sees a big hall with a fireplace. There is a long table with a lot of food on it.

He is cold and sits near the fireplace.

‘How strange,’ he thinks, ‘there’s no one here.’

He is hungry and sits down at the table and starts to eat.

Then he is sleepy. He finds a warm, comfortable bed and falls asleep. The next morning he finds some new clothes near his bed.

‘How nice! New clothes!’ he thinks. ‘A kind person lives in this castle.’

He looks out of the window and is surprised.
او از پنجره به بیرون نگاه می کند و تعجب زده می شود.
‘It’s not snowing and it’s a beautiful day!’ he thinks. ‘And there are flowers in the garden.’
او فکر می کند «برف نمی بارد و روز زیبایی است! و باغ پر از گل است.»
He gets dressed and goes to the hall. There are biscuits, chocolate and milk on the long table. He sits down and says, ‘Thank you for this lovely breakfast.’ He looks round but sees no one.
او لباس می پوشد و به هال می رود. روی میز دراز بیسکویت، شکلات و شیر است. او می نشیند و می گوید «ممنون به خاطر این صبحانه دلچسپ!» او به اطراف نگاه می کند ولی کسی را نمی بیند.
He eats and decides to go home. He goes to the stable and gets his horse. In the garden he sees some roses.
او غذا می خورد و تصمیم می گیرد به خانه برود. به اصطبل می رود و اسبش را بر می دارد. در باغ او چند گل سرخ می بیند.
‘Beauty wants a rose,’ he thinks. He takes a lovely one. Suddenly he hears a terrible noise. He turns round and sees an ugly monster.
او فکر می کند «دلبر یک گل سرخ می خواهد.» او یک گل زیبا می چیند. ناگهان صدای ترسناکی می شنود. او می چرخد و هیولایی زشت را می بیند.
‘You’re a bad man!’ cries the Beast angrily. ‘You come to my castle and I save your life. You eat here and you sleep here. And then you take one of my beautiful roses. For this you must die!’
دیو با عصبانیت فریاد می زند «تو مرد بدی هستی! تو به قلعه من می آیی و من جان تو را نجات می دهم. تو اینجا می خوری و می خوابی. و بعد یکی از گل های زیبایم را می چینی. به خاطر این تو باید بمیری!»
Beauty’s father starts to cry. ‘Oh, sir, I’m sorry! You’re very kind. Please don’t be angry with me. This rose is for one of my daughters.’
پدر دلبر شروع به گریه می کند «من معذرت می خواهم، قربان! شما خیلی مهربان هستید. ولی از دست من عصبانی نشوید. این گل سرخ برای یکی از دخترانم است.»
‘My name is not “sir” – it is Beast. Please call me by my name. You talk about your daughters. Then one of your daughters must die in your place.’
«اسم من قربان نیست – اسم من دیو است. لطفا من را با نامم صدا بزنید. درباره دخترانت گفتی. پس یکی ار دخترانت باید به جای تو بمیرد.»
‘Oh, no!” says Beauty’s father. ‘They’re young and they don’t want to die.’
پدر دلبر می گوید «وای، نه! آن ها جوان هستند و نمی خواهند بمیرند.»

Beauty’s father agrees to come back.

Before Beauty’s father leaves the castle the Beast talks to him.

‘I’m not bad,’ says the Beast. ‘Go back to your bedroom. There is a big chest there. Fill it with everything you want and it is yours.’
دیو می گوید «من بد نیستم. به اتاق خوابت برگرد. آن جا صندوقچه ی بزرگی است. با هرچه می خواهی آن را پر کن و مال تو است.»
Beauty’s father fills the chest with a lot of gold. Then he gets on his horse and goes home. When he is at home he gives the rose to Beauty.
پدر دلبر صندوقچه را مقدار زیادی طلا پر می کند. بعد سوار اسبش می شود. به خانه می رود. وقتی او به خانه می رسد گل سرخ را به دلبر می دهد.
‘Take this rose, Beauty,’ he says sadly. ‘Let me tell you about my terrible adventure.’
او با ناراحتی می گوید «دلبر، این گل سرخ را بگیر. بیا تا برایت از ماجرای وحشتناکم بگویم.»
He tells his children about the empty ship in the port, the castle in the forest and the Beast.
او به بچه هایش درباره کشتی خالی در اسکله، قلعه داخل جنگل و دیو می گوید.
Rosalind and Hortensia are angry with Beauty. They say, ‘Father must die because you like roses, Beauty!’
روزالیند و هورتنسیا از دست دلبر خشمگین هستند. آن ها می گویند «پدر باید بمیرد چون تو گل سرخ دوست داری، دلبر.»
‘No,’ says Beauty, ‘father is not going to die. I’m going to the Beast’s castle!’

‘No, dear sister,’ say her three brothers. ‘We’re going to his castle and we’re going to kill him!’

‘No, that’s not possible,’ says their father. ‘The Beast is very big and strong. I’m old – I must go and die.

But Beauty does not agree. She decides to go to the Beast’s castle.
ولی دلبر قبول نمی کند. او تصمیم می گیرد به قلعه دیو برود.
‘No, father,’ she says, ‘you must not go. I want to go!’
او می گوید «نه، پدر، تو نباید بروی. من می خواهم بروم.»
‘Never, my dear Beauty!’ says her father.
پدرش می گوید «هرگز، دلبر عزیزم!»
‘I’m not afraid,’ says Beauty. ‘You must live and look after my brothers and sisters. They need you.’

Beauty’s father thinks for a moment. Then he says sadly, ‘Alright, Beauty. You can go.’

Beauty’s brothers are very sad, but Hortensia and Rosalind are not.

The next morning Beauty and her father go to the Beast’s castle. Inside the castle they see a long table with a lot of good food on it.
صبح روز بعد دلبر و پدرش به قلعه دیو می روند. داخل قلعه آن ها میزی دراز با غذاهای زیاد روی آن می ببینند.
Beauty and her father are not hungry, but they sit down and eat. Suddenly they hear a loud noise.
دلبر و پدرش گرسنه نیستند، ولی می نشینند و می خورند. ناگهان آن ها صدای بلندی می شنوند.
‘What’s that terrible noise?’ asks Beauty.
دلبر می پرسد «این صدای وحشتناک چه است؟»
‘The Beast is coming,’ says her father.
پدرش می گوید «دیو دارد می آید.»
Beauty sees the Beast’s ugly face and she is terrified.
دلبر صورت زشت دیو را می بیند و می ترسد.
‘Oh, this Beast is really terrible!’ she thinks.
او فکر می کند «وای، این دیو واقعا ترسناک است.»
The Beast looks at her and says, ‘You’re a brave girl.’
دیو به دختر نگاه می کند و می گوید «تو دختر شجاعی هستی.»
‘I’m very sorry about the rose from your garden…,’ says Beauty quietly.
دلبر به آرامی می گوید «من بابت گل سرخ باغتان خیلی متاسفم…»
The Beast looks at Beauty’s father and says, ‘You must go away tomorrow. And don’t come back! Do you understand?’
دیو به پدر دلبر نگاه می کند و می گوید «فردا باید از این جا بروی. و برنگرد؛ می فهمی؟»
Beauty’s father looks at the Beast and then at his daughter.
پدر دلبر به دیو و بعد به دخترش نگاه می کند.
‘Oh, Beauty,’ he says, ‘please go home! Let me stay here!’
او می گوید «اوه، دلبر. لطفا به خانه برو! بگذار من اینجا بمانم!»
‘No, father,’ says Beauty. ‘We must be brave. We’re both tired – let’s go and sleep now. Tomorrow morning you can go home to my brothers and sisters.’
دلبر می گوید «نه، پدر. باید شجاع باشیم. ما هر دو خسته ایم – حالا بیا برویم و بخوابیم. فردا می توانی به خانه پیش برادرها و خواهرهایم بروی.»
That night Beauty has a dream. In her dream a good fairy says, ‘You’re a good girl, Beauty. And you’ve got a kind heart. You want to save your father’s life. You’re going to be very happy one day.’
آن شب دلبر خوابی می بیند. در خوابش یک پری خوب می گوید «تو دختر خوبی هستی، دلبر. و قلب مهربانی داری. تو می خواهی جان پدرت را نجات دهی. یک روز تو خیلی خوشبخت خواهی شد.»
The next morning Beauty’s father leaves the castle. He is crying.
صبح روز بعد پدر دلبر قلعه را ترک می کند. او دارد گریه می کند.
‘Don’t cry, father,’ says Beauty. ‘Remember, I love you.’
دلبر می گوید «گریه نکن، پدر. یادت باشد، دوستت دارم.»
‘Goodbye, dear Beauty,’ says her father.
پدرش می گوید «خداحافظ، دلبر عزیزم.»
Beauty is terrified. ‘The Beast is going to eat me tonight,’ she thinks. ‘I want to enjoy my last day. I’m going to visit the garden of the castle.’
دلبر وحشت زده است. او فکر می کند «امشب دیو من را خواهد خورد. می خواهم از آخرین روز زندگی ام لذت ببرم. من به دیدن باغ قلعه می روم.»
She goes to see the big garden and she is surprised. It is a beautiful garden with a lot of lovely flowers. Then she goes to see the big castle. She looks in all the rooms. On one door she sees this sign:
او به دیدن باغ بزرگ می رود و تعجب زده می شود. باغ زیبایی است با گل های دوست داشتنی. بعد برای دیدن قلعه بزرگ می رود. او داخل تمام اتاق ها را نگاه می کند. روی یکی از درها او این تابلو را می بیند:
BEAUTY’S ROOM
اتاق دلبر
She opens the door and sees a lovely room. There is a nice bed and a mirror on the wall.
او در را باز می کند و اتاق زیبایی می بیند. تختخوابی راحت آنجاست و آینه ای روی دیوار.
Beauty looks round and thinks, ‘There’s a piano and a lot of books for me. How strange! Perhaps the Beast doesn’t want to eat me tonight.’
دلبر به دور و برش نگاه می کند و فکر می کند «اینجا برای من یک پیانو و کلی کتاب است. چقدر عجیب! شاید دیو نمی خواهد امشب من را بخورد.»
She takes a book and starts to read it. Suddenly she sees these words on the pages:
او کتابی بر می دارد و شروع به خواندن می کند. ناگهان او در صفحه ها این کلمه ها را می بیند:
Welcome, Beauty! Don’t be afraid.
خوش آمدی، دلبر! نترس.
You’re the queen here.
تو ملکه ی اینجایی.
Tell me everything you want.
هر چه می خواهی به من بگو.
‘I only want to see my poor father,’ says Beauty.
دلبر می گوید «فقط می خواهم پدر بینوایم را ببینم.»
Suddenly she sees her father in the mirror on the wall. He is very sad. She also sees her home and Hortensia and Rosalind. They are happy without Beauty.
ناگهان او در آینه روی دیوار پدرش را می بیند. پدرش خیلی غمگین است. او خانه شان و هورتنسیا و روزالیند را هم می بیند. آن ها بدون دلبر خوشحالند.
‘The Beast is kind to me,’ she thinks. ‘Why am I afraid of him?’
او فکر می کند «دیو با من مهربان است. چرا من از او می ترسم؟»
At 12 o’clock she has lunch. After lunch she goes to her room.
ساعت ۱۲ او ناهار می خورد. بعد از ناهار به اتاقش می رود.
‘What a beautiful piano!’ thinks Beauty. ‘I want to play it.’
دلبر فکر می کند «چه پیانوی زیبایی! می خواهم پیانو بنوازم.»
She plays some wonderful music on the piano. Then she looks at all the books in her room. Some of them have got pictures and others have not. She takes a book about flowers and looks at the pictures of different flowers. Then she sees pictures of roses of all colours.
او با پیانو چند قطعه موسقی شگفت آور می نوازد. بعد به همه کتاب های داخل اتاق نگاه می کند. برخی از آن ها عکس دارند و برخی دیگر نه. او کتابی درباره گل ها بر می دارد و به عکس گل های مختلف نگاه می کند. بعد او عکس هایی از رزهایی از همه ی رنگ ها (= رنگارنگ) می بیند.
‘Now I want to go to the garden and look at the lovely roses,’ she thinks. She goes to the garden and stays there all afternoon. She looks at the flowers and feels happy.
او فکر می کند «حالا می خواهم به باغ بروم و به گل های سرخ زیبا نگاه کنم.» او به باغ می رود و تمام بعد از ظهر آنجا می ماند. او به گل ها نگاه می کند و احساس خوشبختی می کند.
At dinner time she sits down at the long table and then she hears the Beast coming. She is terrified.
زمان شام او پشت میز دراز می نشیند و بعد می شنود که دیو دارد می آید. او وحشت زده است.
‘Beauty, can I sit here with you?’ asks the Beast.
دیو می پرسد «دلبر، می توانم اینجا با تو بنشینم؟»
‘You’re the lord of the castle,’ says Beauty.
دلبر می گوید «تو ارباب قلعه هستی.»
‘And you’re the queen,’ says the Beast. ‘Can I ask you a question?’
دیو می گوید «و تو ملکه هستی. می توانم سوالی از تو بپرسم؟»
‘Yes, of course,’ says Beauty quietly.
دلبر یواش جواب می دهد «بله، البته.»
‘Am I very ugly?’ asks the Beast.
دیو می پرسد «من خیلی زشتم؟»
Beauty does not know what to say. She looks at him and thinks for a moment.
دلبر نمی داند چه بگوید. او به دیو نگاه می کند و لحظه ای فکر می کند.
‘Well, yes you are!’ says Beauty. ‘But you’re kind and polite.’
دلبر می گوید «خوب، بله تو زشت هستی. ولی تو مودب و مهربان هستی.»
The Beast looks at Beauty and smiles. ‘You’re right, I’m terribly ugly but I’m kind. This is your home now, Beauty. Please don’t be sad!’
دیو به دلبر نگاه می کند و لبخند می زند. «حق با توست، من به شدت زشت ولی مهربان هستم. حالا اینجا خانه توست، دلبر. لطفا غمگین نباش.»
‘Some men are handsome but they’re not kind,’ says Beauty. ‘I prefer you because you’ve got a good heart.
دلبر می گوید «بعضی از آدم ها خوش سیما ولی نامهربان هستند. من تو را ترجیح می دهم چون قلب خوبی (یا خیرخواهی) داری.»
‘Thank you, Beauty,’ says the Beast.
دیو می گوید «ممنون، دلبر.»
Now Beauty is not afraid of the Beast and she eats a big dinner.
حالا دیگر دلبر از دیو نمی ترسد و شام بزرگی می خورد.
The Beast looks at her and asks a question.
دیو به او نگاه و سوالی می پرسد.
‘Do you want to marry me, Beauty?’
«دلبر، میخواهی با من ازدواج کنی؟»
What a question! Beauty is terrified.
چه سوالی! دلبر وحشت زده است.
‘What can I say?’ thinks Beauty.
دلبر فکر می کند «چه می توانم بگویم؟»
She is silent for a moment and then she says, ‘No, I’m sorry I don’t want to marry you.’
او لحظه ای سکوت می کند و بعد می گوید «نه، متاسفم من نمی خواهم با تو ازدواج کنم.»
The Beast is angry and Beauty is afraid.
دیو عصبانی می شود و دلبر ترسیده.
Then he goes out of the room and says, ‘Goodbye, Beauty.’
بعد دیو از اتاق بیرون می رود و می گوید «خداحافظ، دلبر»
Beauty spends three months at the beautiful castle. Every day she reads books and plays the piano. She walks everywhere in the big garden. She likes the tall trees and the flowers of different colours. She puts beautiful flowers in the rooms of the castle. Sometimes she makes perfume from the flowers.
دلبر سه ماه را در قلعه زیبا می گذراند. هر روز او کتاب می خواند و پیانو می زند. همه جای باغ بزرگ قدم می زند. او درختان بلند و گل های رنگارنگ را دوست دارد. او در اتاق های قلعه گل های زیبایی قرار می دهد. گاهی از گل ها عطر درست می کند.
But the days are long and she is often lonely. Beauty often thinks about her father, her sisters and her brothers.
ولی روزها دراز و او بیشتر مواقع تنهاست. دلبر به پدرش و برادران و خواهرانش فکر می کند.
‘I want to see my father again,’ she thinks sadly. ‘And I want to see my home again too.
او غمگین می اندیشد «می خواهم دوباره پدرم را ببینم. و می خواهم دوباره خانه مان را هم ببینم.»
The Beast goes to see her every evening at dinner time, at nine o’clock.
دیو هر روز غروب ساعت نه هنگام شام به دیدن او می رود.
They talk about interesting things and are happy together. Beauty is not afraid of his ugly face now. Every evening the Beast asks Beauty the same question:
آن ها درباره چیزهای جذاب حرف می زنند و با هم خوشحال هستند. حالا دیگر دلبر از چهره زشت او نمی ترسد. هر روز عصر دیو همان سوال را می پرسد:
‘Beauty, do you want to marry me?’
«دلبر، می خواهی با من عروسی کنی؟»
And every evening Beauty answers, ‘No.’
و هر شب دلبر پاسخ می دهد «نه.»
One day Beauty says, ‘Why do you ask me the same question every evening?’
یک روز دلبر می گوید «چرا هر روز عصر همین یک سوال را از من می پرسی؟»
‘Because I hope to hear a different answer,’ says the Beast.
دیو می گوید «چون امیدوارم جواب متفاوتی بشنوم.»
‘I’m sorry, I don’t want to marry you,’ says Beauty
دلبر می گوید «متاسفم، من نمی خواهم با تو عروسی کنم.»
The Beast is very sad.
دیو خیلی غمگین می شود.
‘But I’m always going to be your friend,’ she says.
دلبر می گوید «ولی همیشه دوستت خواهم بود.»
‘You’re a wonderful friend,’ says the Beast.
دیو می گوید «تو دوست خوبی هستی.»
‘And you are too,’ says Beauty smiling.
دلبر لبخند زنان می گوید «و تو هم همینطور.»
‘I know I’m terribly ugly,’ says the Beast. ‘But I love you a lot. I’m very happy with you. Please, don’t leave me!’
دیو می گوید «می دانم خیلی زشتم! ولی تو را خیلی دوست دارم. با تو خیلی خوشبختم. لطفا، من را ترک نکن.»
Beauty’s face becomes red and she is quiet for a moment.
صورت دلبر سرخ می شود و او لحظه ای ساکت می شود.
‘In the mirror of my room,’ says 7 Beauty, ‘I see my poor father. He’s sad and lonely. He thinks I’m dead. My sisters are married and my brothers are away. I want to see my father for the last time. Can I go and see him, please?’
دلبر می گوید «من در آینه ی اتاقم پدر بینوایم را می بینم. او غمگین و تنها است. او فکر می کند من مرده ام. خواهرانم ازدواج کرده و برادرهایم دور هستند (خانه نیستند.) می خواهم برای آخرین بار پدرم را ببینم. می توانم بروم و او را ببینم، خواهش می کنم؟»
‘Yes, you can go and see your father,’ says the Beast. ‘But I’m going to be very sad without you.’
دیو می گوید «بله، می توانی بروی و پدرت را ببینی. ولی بدون تو من خیلی غمگین خواهم بود.»
‘Oh, thank you!’ says Beauty happily. ‘Please don’t be sad, Beast. I’m going to come back in a week.’
دلبر با خوشحالی می گوید «اوه، خیلی ممنون. لطفا غمگین نباش، دیو. تا یک هفته بر خواهم گشت.»
‘Alright,’ says the Beast. ‘You can visit your father tomorrow morning. But remember, you must come back in a week. Before you come back put this ring on a table near your bed. It’s a magic ring. Goodbye, Beauty.’
دیو می گوید «خیلی خوب. فردا صبح می توانی به دیدن پدرت بروی. ولی یادت باشد، باید یک هفته ای برگردی. قبل از اینکه برگردی این حلقه را روی میزی نزدیک تختت قرار بده. این یک حلقه جادویی است. خدا نگهدار، دلبر»
The next morning Beauty wakes up in her bedroom in her father’s house. She gets up and goes downstairs.
صبح روز بعد دلبر در اتاق خوابش در خانه پدرش بیدار می شود. او بلند می شود و به طبقه پایین می رود.
When her father sees her he cries, ‘Beauty, is that you? How wonderful! My daughter is well and she’s here!’
وقتی پدرش او را می بیند فریاد می زند «دلبر، خودت هستی؟ چقدر عالی! دخترم حالش خوب است و اینجاست!»
Beauty is very happy and hugs her father.
دلبر خیلی خوشحال است و پدرش را بغل می کند.
‘Get dressed quickly and then tell me about the Beast!’ says her father happily.
پدرش با خوشحالی می گوید «سریع لباس بپوش و بعد از دیو برایم بگو!»

She goes to her room and finds a chest full of beautiful clothes. ‘This is a present from the Beast!’ says Beauty to her father. ‘He’s very nice and gives me presents every day.’ She chooses some lovely clothes.
او به اتاقش می رود و صندقچه ای پر از لباس های زیبا می یابد. دلبر به پدرش می گوید «این هدیه ای از طرف دیو است! او خیلی خوب است و هر روز به من هدیه می دهد.» او چند لباس زیبا انتخاب می کند.
‘I want to give these lovely clothes to Rosalind and Hortensia,’ she says.

‘The Beast is watching you,’ says Beauty’s father. ‘These beautiful clothes are for you and not for your sisters.’

Suddenly the chest comes back again.
ناگهان صندوقچه دوباره برمی گردد.
and Rosalind morning That Hortensia come to visit their sister. They are both very unhappy.
آن روز صبح روزالیند و هورتنسیا به دیدن خواهرشان می آیند. آن ها هر دو خیلی غمگین هستند.
‘Oh, Beauty,’ says Rosalind, ‘I’m unhappy.’
روزالیند می گوید «وای، دلبر. من خیلی غمگینم.»
‘Why are you unhappy, Rosalind?’ asks Beauty.
دلبر می پرسد «چرا غمگینی، روزالیند؟»
‘Oh, it’s a long story,’ says Rosalind.
روزالیند می گوید «اوه، داستان درازی است.»
‘Please tell me,’ says Beauty.
دلبر می گوید «لطفا به من بگو.»
‘My husband is handsome and he spends all day in front of a mirror. He never looks at me or talks to me.’
«شوهر من خوش سیما است و تمام روز را جلوی آینه می گذراند. او هرگز نه به من نگاه می کند و نه با من حرف می زند.»
‘Oh, dear, that’s a big problem,’ says Beauty.
دلبر می گوید «اوه، عزیزم، این مشکل بزرگی است.»
Hortensia says, ‘My husband is very clever, but he doesn’t like anyone, and no one likes him.’
هورتنسیا می گوید «شوهر من خیلی باهوش است، ولی از هیچ کس خوشش نمی آید، و هیچ کس هم از او خوشش نمی آید.»
‘I can never invite my friends to lunch or dinner because he doesn’t like them.’
«من هیچ وقت نمی توانم دوستانم را برای ناهار یا شام دعوت کنم چون از آن ها خوشش نمی آید.»
‘We’ve got a lot of problems with our husbands,’ they say.
آن ها می گویند «ما با شوهران مان خیلی مشکل داریم.»
‘My poor sisters!’ says Beauty. ‘I’m very sorry.’
دلبر می گوید «طفلکی خواهرانم! من خیلی متاسفم.»
‘Tell us about the Beast,’ says Hortensia.
هورتنسیا می گوید «از دیو برای ما بگو.»
“Oh, the Beast is not a bad man,’ says Beauty. ‘He’s very kind. I live in his beautiful castle and I’m the queen. I don’t work. I read, play the piano and walk in the garden. Every evening the Beast comes to see me at dinner and we talk about a lot of things. It’s wonderful.’
دلبر می گوید «اوه، دیو آدم بدی نیست. او خیلی مهربان است. من در قلعه زیبایش زندگی می کنم و ملکه هستم. من کار نمی کنم. من کتاب می خوانم، پیانو می زنم و در باغ قدم می زنم. هر روز غروب دیو هنگام شام به دیدن من می آید و ما درباره خیلی چیزها صحبت می کنیم. عالی است!»
The two sisters are very angry and they go to the garden.
دو خواهر خیلی عصبانی می شوند و به باغ می روند.
‘Beauty wears lovely clothes and shoes,’ says Rosalind. ‘She’s like a queen. She’s very happy. Why is she lucky? And why are we unlucky?’
روزالیند می گوید «دلبر لباس ها و کفش های زیبا می پوشد. او مثل ملکه است. او خیلی خوشبخت است. چرا او خوش شانس است؟ و چرا ما کم شانسیم؟»
‘You’re right, Rosalind,’ says Hortensia. ‘We’re not very lucky. But maybe we can be lucky! Beauty has to return to the Beast in a week, or he’s going to get angry and eat her!
هورتنسیا می گوید «حق با توست، روزالیندا. ما خیلی خوش شانس نیستیم. ولی شاید بتوانیم باشیم! دلبر باید تا یک هفته به قلعه برگردد، وگرنه دیو عصبانی می شود و او را می خورد.»
‘Then we must keep her here,’ says Rosalind. ‘Then the Beast is going to get angry.’
روزالیندا می گوید «پس باید او را اینجا نگه داریم. آنوقت دیو عصبانی می شود.»
During the week the two sisters are kind to Beauty. They talk and laugh with her. They walk together in the country. Beauty is happy with her sisters.
در طول هفته دو خواهر با دلبر مهربان هستند. آن ها با او می گویند و می خندند. آن ها در حومه شهر با هم قدم می زنند.دلبر با خواهرانش خوشحال است.
‘Rosalind and Hortensia love me,’ she thinks. ‘They’re good sisters and I love them a lot.’
او فکر می کند «روزالیند و هورتنسیا من را دوست دارند. آن ها خواهران خوبی هستند و من خیلی آنها را دوست دارم.»
At the end of the week Beauty says, ‘I must go back to the Beast’s castle.’ But her sisters start to cry.
آخر هفته دلبر می گوید «من باید به قلعه دیو برگردم.» ولی خواهرانش شروع به گریه می کنند.
‘Oh, Beauty,’ says Rosalind, ‘please stay with us another week. We need you.’
روزالیند می گوید «وای، دلبر. لطفا یک هفته دیگر با ما بمان. ما به تو نیاز داریم.»
‘Yes, Beauty,’ says Hortensia, ‘please don’t leave us. We have fun with you and we love you.’
هورتنسیا می گوید «بله، دلبر، لطفا ما را ترک نکن. ما با تو خوش می گذرانیم و تو را دوست داریم.»
‘Yes,’ says Rosalind, ‘stay with us! We can do a lot of things together.’
روزالیند می گوید «بله، با ما بمان! ما می توانیم خیلی کارها با هم بکنیم.»
Beauty does not know what to do. She decides to stay another week.
دلبر نمی داند چه کار کند. او تصمیم می گیرد یک هفته ی دیگر بماند.
‘The Beast is going to be very sad without me,’ Beauty thinks. ‘But I want to stay with my family for a few more days. Then I’m going to go back to him.’
دلبر فکر میکند «دیو بدون من خیلی غمگین می شود. ولی می خواهم چند روز بیشتر با خانواده ام بمانم. بعد پیش او بر می گردم.»
Beauty thinks about the Beast. She misses him.
دلبر به دیو فکر می کند. دلبر دلش برای دیو تنگ می شود.
Ten days later Beauty dreams about the Beast. In her dream the Beast is on the grass in the garden of the castle. And he’s going to die!
ده روز بعد دلبر خواب دیو را می بیند. در خوابش دیو در چمن های باغ قلعه است. و او دارد می میرد!
‘Beauty,’ whispers the Beast, ‘today is the tenth day and you’re not here. I can’t live without you. I can’t eat or drink.’
دیو نجوا می کند «دلبر، امروز دهمین روز است و تو اینجا نیستی. من بدون تو نمی توانم زندگی کنم. نمی توانم چیزی بخورم یا بنوشم.»

Beauty wakes up and thinks, ‘The poor Beast is going to die without me! I must go back to him.’
دلبر بیدار می شود و فکر می کند «دیو بیچاره بدون من می میرد! باید پیش او برگردم.»
She takes the ring and puts it on a table near her bed.
او حلقه را بر می دارد و روی میز نزدیک تختش می گذارد.
‘The Beast is ugly but he’s very kind,’ she thinks. ‘Why don’t I marry him? I’m happy with him. My sisters have handsome, clever husbands – but they’re not happy.’
او فکر می کند «دیو زشت ولی خیلی مهربان است. چرا با او عروسی نمی کنم؟ من با او خوشبختم. خواهرانم شوهرهای باهوش خوش سیما دارند – ولی خوشبخت
نیستند.»
asleep and the next Beauty falls morning she wakes up at the Beast’s castle.
دلبر خوابش برد و صبح روز بعد در قلعه ی دیو از خواب بلند شد.
Today I’m going to wear a beautiful dress,’ Beauty thinks.
دلبر فکر می کند «امروز من لباس زیبایی خواهم پوشید.»
At nine o’clock in the evening she goes to dinner and waits for the Beast. But he doesn’t come to see her.
ساعت نه بعد از ظهر او به شام می رود و منتظر دیو می شود. ولی دیو به دیدن او نمی آید.
‘What’s happening?’ Beauty thinks. ‘Where’s the Beast? Why isn’t he here?’
دلبر فکر می کند «چه اتفاقی دارد می افتد (یا چه شده)؟ دیو کجاست؟ چرا اینجا نیست؟»
‘Beast!’ she cries. ‘Beast, where are you! Answer me!’
او فریاد می زند «دیو! دیو، کجایی تو به من جواب بده!»
She opens the doors of all the rooms and looks everywhere in the castle. But she cannot find him. Suddenly she remembers her dream. She runs to the garden and sees the Beast on the grass.
او در تمام اتاق های قلعه را باز و همه جای قلعه را نگاه می کند. ولی نمی تواند او را پیدا کند. ناگهان خوابش را به خاطر می آورد. او به سوی باغ می دود و دیو را در چمن ها می بیند.
‘Oh, no!’ she cries. ‘Is he dead?’ She listens to his heart and it is beating. ‘Good! He’s not dead!’ she thinks.
او فریاد می زند «وای، نه! او مرده؟» او به ضربان قلب دیو گوش می کند. قلبش می تپد. او فکر می کند «چه خوب! نمرده!»
She gets some cold water from the river and wets his face. The Beast slowly opens his eyes.
او کمی آب سرد از رودخانه می آورد و صورت دیو را خیس می کند. دیو به آرامی چشمانش را باز می کند.
‘Beauty,’ he whispers, ‘I’m dying… but I’m happy because you’re here.’
دیو نجوا می کند «دلبر، دارم میمیرم… ولی خوشحالم چون تو اینجا هستی.»
‘No, Beast, cries Beauty. ‘Don’t die! You must live and become my husband. I love you and I can’t live without you.’
دلبر گریه می کند «نه، دیو. نمیر! باید زنده بمانی و شوهرم شوی. من تو را دوست دارم و بدون تو نمی توانم زندگی کنم.»
Suddenly all the lights of the castle and the garden, turn on. There are beautiful fireworks in the sky. Beauty is surprised and looks at the castle. Then she turns round and looks at the Beast.
ناگهان تمام چراغ های قلعه و باغ روشن می شود. آتش بازی زیبایی در آسمان دیده می شود. دلبر تعجب زده شده و به قلعه نگاه می کند. بعد می چرخد و به دیو نگاه می کند.
What a surprise! She sees a handsome young man.
چه سورپرایزی! او مرد جوان خوش سیمایی می بیند.
‘Thank you, Beauty,’ says the young man. ‘The spell is broken!’
مرد جوان می گوید «ممنون، دلبر. طلسم شکسته است!»
‘But where is the Beast?’ asks Beauty. ‘I am the Beast!’ says the prince.
دلبر می پرسد «ولی دیو کجاست؟» شاهزاده می گوید «من دیو هستم.»

‘I don’t understand,’ says Beauty. ‘Who are you?’
دلبر می گوید «من نمی فهمم. تو کی هستی؟»
‘I’m a prince and this is my castle, says the young man. ‘Sometimes a bad witch puts a spell on a prince and only true love can break the spell. Now I know your love is true.’
مرد جوان می گوید «من یک شاهزاده ام و این قلعه ی من است. گاهی یک جادوگر بد طینت یک شاهزاده را طلسم می کند و فقط عشق واقعی می تواند آن را بشکند. حالا می دانم عشقت واقعی است.»
The prince takes her hand and says, ‘Do you want to marry me, Beauty?’
شاهزاده دست او را می گیرد و می گوید «دلبر، می خواهی با من ازدواج کنی؟»
Beauty looks at the handsome prince and says, ‘Yes, I do!’
دلبر به شاهزاده ی زیبا نگاه می کند و می گوید «بله، می خواهم!»
Beauty and the prince go to the castle. When she opens the door she is surprised.
دلبر و شاهزاده به قلعه می روند. وقتی دلبر در را باز می کند حیرت زده می شود.
‘My family! You’re all here!’ cries Beauty. She is happy when she sees her family. They talk and laugh together.
دلبر فریاد می زند «خانواده ام! همه ی شما اینجایید!» او وقتی خانواده اش را می بیند خوشحال می شود. آن ها با هم می گویند و می خندند.
Suddenly she sees the good fairy from her dream.
ناگهان او پریِ خوب آن خوابش را می بیند.
‘Beauty,’ says the good fairy, ‘you’ve got a kind heart and you’re going to marry the prince and become a princess!’
پری خوب می گوید «دلبر، تو قلب مهربانی داری و با شاهزاده ازدواج می کنی و شاهزاده خانم می شوی!»
Then the good fairy looks at Beauty’s two sisters.
بعد پری خوب به دو خواهر دلبر نگاه می کند.
‘You’re both bad, lazy and unkind,’ says the fairy. ‘You don’t love anyone!’
پری می گوید «شما هر دو بد، تنبل و نامهربان هستید. شما هیچ کسی را دوست ندارید!»
The fairy says some magic words and suddenly Rosalind and Hortensia become statues.
پری چند کلمه جادویی می گوید و ناگهان روزالیند و هورتنسیا به مجسمه تبدیل می شوند.
‘Oh, no!’ cries Beauty. ‘My sisters are statues!’
دلبر فریاد می زند «وای، نه! خواهرانم مجسمه شدند!»
‘Your sisters have got hearts of stone,’ says the fairy. ‘Now they can’t move, but they can see and hear everything. When they understand their mistakes they can become Rosalind and Hortensia again.’
پری می گوید «خواهرانت قلبی از سنگ دارند. حالا نمی توانند تکان بخورند، ولی می توانند همه چیز را ببینند و بشنوند. وقتی متوجه اشتباهاتشان بشوند می توانند دوباره روزالیند و هورتنسیا بشوند.»
The next day Beauty and the prince get married. Everyone dances and sings in the castle. It is a happy day. People give flowers to Beauty and the prince.
روز بعد دلبر و شاهزاده ازدواج می کنند. همه در قلعه می رقصند و آواز می خوانند. روز شادی است. مردم به دلبر و شاهزاده گل می دهند.
The prince sees tears in Beauty’s eyes and says, ‘Don’t cry, my Beauty. We’re going to be very happy together!!
شاهزاده اشک را در چشمان دلبر می بیند و می گوید گریه نکن، دلبرم. ما با هم خیلی خوشبخت خواهیم بود!»

دیو و دلبر (به انگلیسی: Beauty and the Beast) یک فیلم پویانمایی آمریکایی تهیه‌شده توسط استادیوی انیمیشن والت دیزنی و پخش شده در ۲۲ نوامبر سال ۱۹۹۱ توسط والت دیزنی پیکچرز است. داستان این انیمیشن برگرفته از داستان دیو و دلبر (به فرانسوی: La Belle et la Bête) اثر ژنی ماری لی پرنس دی بیومونت است.

در ابتدای داستان، یک زن گدا یک شاهزادهٔ جوان را نفرین و او را تبدیل به یک دیو زشت میکند، زن جادوگر به وی یک آینهٔ جادویی که او را از حوادث مطلع میکند و یک گل رز می‌دهد که تا بیست‌ویکمین سال تولدش شکوفه می‌دهد، او باید تا آن هنگام عشق واقعی را حس کند تا نفرین را بشکند، وگرنه تا پایان عمر همان جانور زشت باقی خواهد ماند.

در سویی دیگر دختری زیبا به‌نام بلی همراه پدر مخترع‌اش موریس زندگی میکند، آخرین اختراع موریس یک ماشین چوب خردکُن است و هنگامی که او از طریق جنگل برای به نمایش گذاشتن اختراعش در نمایشگاهی می‌رود، گرگ‌ها وی را تعقیب و او به قصر دیو می‌رود و دیو او را زندانی میکند. بلی به‌دنبال پدرش رفته و با دیو برخورد میکند و دیو پس از مدتی که او وپدرش را زندانی کرد عاشق بلی می‌شود و عشق واقعی را حس میکند و نفرین شکسته می‌شود.

Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve گابریل سوزان باربوت دویلانوو در سال ۱۶۸۵ در پاریس متولد شد و در سال ۱۷۵۵ در همان شهر از دنیا رفت. وی متعلق به یک خانواده ی پروتستان از اهالی لاریشل بود.
او در سال ۱۷۰۶ با گولان ازدواج کرد اما ۶ ماه بعد از ازدواج جدا شد. او و شوهرش دختری داشتند که معلوم نیست زنده مانده است یا نه و شوهرش نیز در سال ۱۷۱۱ از دنیا رفت. او ثروت خانوادگیش را به تدریج از دست داد و مجبور شد برای گذران زندگی کار کند. او پس از مدتی با پراسپر جان ادیکولان ملاقات کرد. او مشهورترین
نویسنده ی داستانهای تراژیک آن دوران بود. آنها تا پایان زندگی گابریل سوزان با هم زندگی کردند. او هم داستانهای بلند و کوتاهی به رشته ی تحریر در آورده است.
کتابهای او La Jeune Américaine ou les Contes marins در سال ۱۷۴۰ و Les Belles Solitaires در سال ۱۷۴۵ بودند که داستانهای بلند به شمار می آمدند . داستانهای کوتاه او شامل چهار کتاب به نامهای Le Beau-frère supposé (۱۷۵۲), La Jardinière de Vincennes (1753) (The Gardener of Vincennes), Le juge prévenu (1754) (The Biased Judge), and the Mémoires de Mesdemoiselles de Marsange (1757 هستند . اما مهمترین کتاب او داستان دیو و دلبر است که در این داستان دیو نماد یک موجود احمق است . بعد از مرگش جیان ماری لپرس دوبومانت این کتاب را بازنویسی و منتشر کرد . این نویسنده در کتاب بازنویسی شده اش اشاره ای به گابریل باربوت دویلانوو نکرد و به همین خاطر خودش به جای او مشهور شد .

Once, there was a rich merchant in a big town.
He had many ships. They brought lots of gold from all over the world.
He also had three daughters. The two elder sisters thought that they were the prettiest.
They would only wear expensive dresses.
They would only think about marrying rich men. The youngest daughter was different. She was the most beautiful daughter. In fact, everything about her was beautiful. This is why her name was “Beauty.”
One day, the rich merchant suddenly lost everything. All of his ships sank. Now he only had a small Country-house. The old merchant told his daughters what happened. Beauty said to her father, “Please don’t cry. We have each other and our good health. Money is not important.”
Her sisters started to pull their hair out.
“oh father,” the eldest daughter cried. “What will we do now?” “You’ll have to work,” he said very sadly.
The middle daughter was angry and said, “We can’t work.
No rich man will want to marry us!”
“Let’s go to town,”
said the eldest daughter.
“We’ll marry the first man that proposes.” The two daughters put on their best dresses. They went to town, and looked for husbands. But everyone knew about the merchant’s bad luck. The middle daughter said to one man, “I’m ready to be married.” “I only wanted to marry you for your money!” said he.
Another man said to the eldest daughter, “I changed my mind because you don’t have any money.” But one man ran to Beauty and said. “Please marry me.
We could live happily together.” But she couldn’t leave her father. “My father is old. I have to stay with him.”
The family moved to the country-house, The elder sisters didn’t stop complaining. They never did any work. But Beauty worked hard every day. “If I don’t work, my father will be hungry,” she thought.
One day, her father came home with a big smile. “I just heard some good news,” he said.
“One of my ships didn’t sink.
it’s bringing back lots of gold for us. We’ll be rich again!” Beauty smiled at her father. “That’s great news. I’m so glad to see you happy again.”
The two elder sisters jumped up for joy.
“We’re rich! We’re rich!” they shouted.

The next morning, Beauty’s father woke up early. He had to meet his ship at the port. “Good-bye girls. I’m going to the port,” he said. The elder sisters jumped out of bed and ran to him. “We had to eat bad food, and wear ugly clothes,” they said.
“Will you bring us a present? We want some chocolates and some silk dresses.
“OK. I’ll bring you back what you want,” he said.
“What about you, Beauty?
What can I get for you?” Beauty didn’t want anything. She was happy just because she could see her father happy. She only thought of one simple thing. “Just bring me a rose,” she said.
Then, the merchant said good-bye to them and left. The old man walked to the port. It took him more than a week. When he got there, he heard some terrible news. His last ship had no money on it. Pirates robbed it. They had taken everything.
Beauty’s father fell to the ground and started to cry.
“I must be cursed,” he thought.
Sadly he started to walk back home.
When the old man walked home, the weather became terribly cold.
The old man was sad and very cold.
He thought it would be so miserable to sleep in the cold. As the sun was setting, the merchant saw a castle. “Maybe there’s a nice prince in that castle.
He’ll give me a bed tonight,” he said.
When he came to the gates of the castle, he yelled, “Hello!” Nobody answered him.
He looked through a window and saw a fire in the fireplace.
Next to the fireplace was a table.
On the table were a roasted chicken with potatoes, cake, and hot coffee.
The food looked so delicious, and the castle looked so Warm.
He walked in, sat down, and ate all of the food.
After supper, he lay down on a comfortable bed and went to sleep.
When the old man woke up in the morning, he felt very good.
He saw the table was set with a big breakfast.
The old merchant felt grateful to the owner of the castle.
He didn’t know who he was. But he was saved from a cold and hungry night.
The old man decided to go and thank the owner.
He walked all around the house.
He saw a lot of beautiful furniture and big rooms.
But he didn’t see anybody.
So he thanked the empty castle.
“Thank you!” he yelled. “Whoever you are!”
When he left, the old man saw a garden.
There were some rose bushes. He remembered Beauty’s request.
As soon as the old man picked a rose, he heard a loud growl.
The merchant jumped up, and saw a beast running toward him. “You dirty, little thief!” the Beast growled. “I gave you food and a bed. And what do you do? You steal my roses! Now you’re going to pay for it. I’m going to kill you!”
Thump-Thump!
The old man’s heart was beating loudly. “Please, my lord. Please forgive me. I didn’t mean to offend you. I just wanted a rose for my youngest daughter,” said he.
“I don’t care about that! And don’t call me my lord. My name is Beast. That’s what I am.”
Then the Beast began to think.
“You say you have a daughter, eh?
You may go home. But you have to send me your daughter.
If your daughter doesn’t come here, I’ll kill you and your whole family!”
The old man knew that the Beast wasn’t joking. But the merchant didn’t plan to send his daughter.
“Beast,” the old man said, “I have a problem. I have no money to send her.
Also, nobody else in my family works.
Without her, the rest of my family will starve.”
“Don’t you worry about that,” said the Beast.
“Take some gold from my castle. I have lots of it.
Give the gold to your family.”
The old man took a bag of gold with him and started walking home.
When the old man arrived home, he was tired and very sad.
The elder daughters looked at his face and sighed.
They knew that something was wrong.
“Let me guess. The last boat sank, and we’re still poor,” said the eldest daughter.
“Don’t worry about money. We have lots of that,” said the merchant.
He opened his bag, and gold fell out all over the floor.
The elder daughters started filling their pockets. Beauty looked at her father and said, “I’m worried about you. You look so sad.”
Actually, I’m sad because of this present,” said the old man.
He took out the rose, and gave it to Beauty.
Then he told his daughters the sad story about the beast, the castle, and the rose.
The elder daughters didn’t care about his story.
They were happy playing with their gold.
But Beauty couldn’t stop crying.
“Oh, this is awful! This is all my fault.”
After a while, Beauty said quietly, “I’m going to go to the Beast father.”
Beauty’s father looked at his daughter.
“There is no choice,” she said. “The beast will kill you and our whole family if I don’t go.”
She looked determined.
There was no use telling her not to go.
Beauty always did what she said.
The next morning, Beauty left for the castle.
She asked people for directions.
The castle was very famous, because it was the biggest one around.
At sunset, she reached it. Beauty looked around the castle.
Like her father, she saw nobody.
She yelled, “Hello!” But no one answered.
She came in and saw a table with food on it.
Beauty thought, “This beast must be trying to make me fatter.
I think he’s going to eat me.”
Beauty ate everything on the table. After supper, she walked around the castle.
There were the fine curtains and expensive carpets, but no people.
She saw a library with thousands of books.
But there were no people reading them.
Then, Beauty came to a door.
On it was a sign that read “BEAUTY’S APARTMENT.”
“Is this my room? Maybe he won’t kill me.
And how does he know my name?” she thought. Beauty opened the door and went inside.
The girl was amazed by the room.
It was filled with beautiful things.
The room was as beautiful as Beauty.
The girl was so happy to be there.
She smiled and jumped on the bed.
A golden book was lying on the bed.
The title was “BEAUTY’S BOOK.”
She opened the book and read the first page.
It read, “Welcome, Beauty.
Don’t worry about anything.
No one will hurt you in this castle.
You are the princess here.
If you want anything, just say so.
Invisible people will bring you what you want.”
“I want to see my poor father.
He must be very sad.”
As soon as Beauty said this, a picture of her home appeared in a mirror in front of her.
She saw her father sitting in his favorite chair. He looked so sad.
She also saw her two sisters playing with gold.
She thought, “He will learn to live without me soon.
He’ll be happy again.”
After a while, she fell asleep thinking about her family.
Beauty spent the next day alone.
In the evening, she sat down to a wonderful supper.
When she picked up her knife and fork, she heard a gentle growl from behind her.
“Beauty,” said the Beast.
“May I have supper with you?”
“It is your castle,” Beauty answered.
“You can do what you want.”
“No,” said the Beast.
“You are the princess of this castle.
You should decide.
I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable.”
“You seem to be very gentle,” she said.
The Beast raised his ugly eyebrows.
He hadn’t expected her to say this.
“You speak so gently,” Beauty continued.
“You are probably more handsome on the inside.”
“Aw, I don’t know about that. Thank you for saying so,” said the Beast shyly.
“I will join you for supper.”
That evening, Beauty and the Beast sat down, and ate together.
They spent a long time talking. At the end of the evening, Beauty thought that the Beast was not so scary. Every evening, he would have supper with her.
They talked about many things.
But the Beast asked one thing every night.
“How ugly am I?”
Beauty always said, “Your heart is beautiful.”
She really felt that way.
“I may be nice, but I am still a beast,” he said. A strange thing happened.
Beauty began to think that the Beast wasn’t ugly at all.
He seemed to become handsome to her. The Beast knew that Beauty never lied.
He didn’t believe that he was good-looking. But he did believe that Beauty saw something handsome inside him.
Beauty saw something handsome inside him.
The Beast felt a love for Beauty the first time that he saw her.
The problem was that she couldn’t love him.
“It is difficult to love an ugly beast,” he thought. He often imagined that they were married.
It wasn’t very difficult.
They slept under the same roof, and ate the same food.
Every evening they talked for hours like a husband and wife.
But there was one thing missing.
Beauty didn’t love him.
Then, one day, he couldn’t hide his feelings.
“I love you, Beauty,” he said. “Please marry me.”
She sat and looked at the Beast for a long time.
“You are kind and gentle,” said Beauty. “But you are a beast. And I can’t imagine being married to a beast. I’m sorry.”
The Beast growled and ran away.
He stayed at his room for a week after that night.
Beauty had to eat dinner alone.
A week later, the Beast returned to the dining room.
He looked embarrassed and sad.
“Beauty,” he said. “I know that I’m a beast. And I know that a beauty could never marry a beast.
Please, just ask one thing of you.
I want you to stay with me here forever.
Let’s be friends. If you leave me, I be so lonely.
I think I would die of sadness.”
Beauty looked at the ground and blushed.
I’m sorry, Beast,”
she said.
I must go back to my father.
I saw him in the magical mirror yesterday.
He is living alone.
My sisters finally got married and left him.
He needs someone to take care of him.”
“I understand you, Beauty.
You are so kind,” said the Beast.
“I know that you have to be with your father.
But I can’t stay alone anymore.
Go home for a week.
I’ll send lots of money to your house.
Get a good servant for your father.
The servant could take care of him.
Then, come back to me.
If you don’t come back, I will die of heartbreak,” he said.
“Alright, Beast,” said Beauty.
“My father will be happy just to see me again.”
“Take this ring,” the Beast said.
“Wear it.
When you want to come back to me, take the ring off before going to bed.
In the morning, you’ll wake up here in my castle.”
Beauty put the ring on, and went to bed. In the morning, she woke up in her father’s house. She saw a box in the corner the room. It was full of gold and beautiful dresses.
The dresses were made of jewels and silver.
Beauty knew that these were presents from the Beast.
“Thank you, Beast,” she said to herself.
When the lonely old merchant saw Beauty, he began to cry.
His tears were tears of joy.
“You are a gift from heaven,” he said.
“I thought the Beast ate you.”
The merchant hugged his daughter for a long time.
They were so happy.
A few days later, her sisters came with their husbands.
They were married to rich and handsome men.
but they didn’t look happy.
This was because of their husbands. When Beauty saw these men, she began to think a lot about the Beast.
They were handsome, and he was ugly.
They were boring, and the Beast was interesting.
They were mean, and the Beast was kind.
They were stingy, and the Beast was generous.
They made their wives feel sad, but the Beast made Beauty feel happy.
As Beauty thought about the Beast, she smiled.
Beauty realized at that very moment that she loved the Beast. The middle sister saw the smile, and became very angry.
“She looks happy but I’m so sad. I can’t stand this!
I wish she were dead!”
“I have a plan,” said the middle sister to the eldest.
“Let’s keep Beauty here longer than a week.
Then, the Beast will become very angry. He’ll eat Beauty when she goes back to the castle.”
The eldest sister agreed.
She was always jealous because Beauty was more beautiful.
“Let’s be really nice to her. Then she won’t want to leave,” said the eldest.
For a few days, the elder sisters were very nice to Beauty.
They brought her gifts.
They worked around their father’s house.
They said nice things to her.
“Poor Beauty,” said the eldest.
“You worked so hard. You should take a rest.”
On the sixth day, Beauty went to town, and hired a good servant.
That evening, Beauty came back home with the woman.
“I hired a good servant for you, father.
She’ll take good care of you. “I’ll say good-bye to all of you now.”
Then, the elder sisters started to cry.
“Oh, you can’t leave us,” said the middle sister.
“We’re just getting to really know you.
I want to talk to you some more.”
“Please, please,” said the eldest.
“Stay for one more week.”
Beauty couldn’t stand to see them sad.
“Alright,” she said.
“I’ll stay for just one more week.”
A few evenings later, Beauty had a terrible dream.
In the dream, she walked around the castle, and looked for the Beast.
There was nobody there.
She called his name, but she didn’t hear an answer. Near the castle, she heard a noise.
When she walked toward the noise, she found the Beast. He was lying on the ground. “Oh, Beast! Please don’t die,” she cried.
“I am so ugly, aren’t I?” he growled.
“You could never love a beast like me.”
Then the Beast died in her arms. Beauty woke up and jumped out of bed.
“What am I doing? I’m killing my poor Beast.
I must go to the Beast right now and marry him!”
Beauty wrote a good-bye letter to her father.
Then, she took off her ring, and fell asleep again.
In the morning, Beauty woke up in the castle.
She walked around, and looked for the Beast.
He was not anywhere.
She thought that he would appear at the dinner table as usual.
“Tonight, tell him that I’ll marry him.”
That evening, Beauty made herself beautiful.
At dinnertime, she didn’t see any food magically appear.
The Beast didn’t come to dinner, either.
Then, Beauty thought, “Maybe he’s dead.
Maybe he died when I didn’t come back to him.
Maybe he couldn’t live any longer, because I wouldn’t marry him.”
“Beast! Beast!” she called out.
But there was no answer.
Then she remembered the place where she found the Beast in her dream.
She ran there very quickly.
She found the Beast lying in the garden.
Just like in her dream, he seemed to be dying. “Beast!” she cried. “You can’t die.
You must live with me, and be my husband! Please, marry me.”
Then Beauty bent over the dying creature, and held him in her arms. Then she kissed the hairy Beast’s cheek.
At that moment, she saw a bright flash of light.
In a moment, Beauty found herself inside the castle.
The room was filled with flowers. Next to Beauty was a very handsome man.
He was dressed like a prince.
She was very confused.
“What’s going on here? Where’s my dear Beast?”
“I am your Beast, sweet Beauty,” the prince said.
“A long time ago, an evil witch cast a spell on me.
She changed me into a beast.
She said that I would never change or grow old until a beautiful woman agreed to marry me.
I lived by myself for hundreds of years.
When you came to my place, I felt happy for the first time in centuries.
But when you said you wouldn’t marry me,
I felt like I would die.
Then you came back, and said you would marry me. You saved my life. And you changed me back to my natural form.
I owe you everything, dear Beauty.
And I love you very much.”
At that moment, a good witch appeared and said to them, “I’m glad to see you looking so handsome again, sir.
Beauty, you finally met a beautiful person like you.
Truly, you are the most handsome couple in the whole world.
I will marry you today. And I will give you happiness for the rest of your lives.
I will bring you many happy and beautiful children, too.”
From that day, Beauty and her prince were always happy.
They continued having their long talks in the evenings.
And when their children were born, the halls of the castle were filled with children’s laughter.

دیو و دلبر سریال دیو دلبر (به انگلیسی :Beauty & the Beast) یک سریال تلویریونی آمریکایی بسیار آزادانه که از یکی از سریالهای ۱۹۸۷ CBS الهام گرفته شده است.
این سریال در ۱۱ اکتبر ۲۰۱۲ به نمایش درآمد. در ۹ نوامبر ۲۰۱۲ شبکه cw دستور ساخت یک فصل ۲۲ قسمته کامل از سریال را صادر کرد. در ۲۶ آوریل ۲۰۱۳، cw مجدد سری دوم را با۲۲ قسمت کامل ساخت.
کارگاه کاترین چاندلر یک کارآگاه باهوش است که با همکارش تس کار میکند. سالها قبل کاترین شاهد به قتل رسیدن مادرش توسط دو مرد مسلح، دو مرد مسلحی که او را هم کشته بودند البته اگر از این واقعیت بگذریم که چیزی دخالت کرد و زندگی او را نجات داد. همه بر این باور بودند که یک حیوان وحشی جان کاترین را نجات داده است. حالا کاترین تبدیل به یک زن توانا و قوی شده است اما هنوز بر این باور است که یک انسان زندگیش را نجات داد نه یک جانور. در ضمن بررسی یکی از جنایات اخیر، سرنخی کاترین را بسوی دکتر وینسنت کلر که یک مرد جذاب است هدایت میکند مردی که ظاهراً در حال خدمت در افغانستان در سال ۲۰۰۲ کشته شده است. البته معلوم می‌شود که وینسنت در واقع زنده است و او همان مردی است که زندگی کاترین را نجات داده. اما او برای ۱۰ سال گذشته در خفا زندگی می‌کرده است زیرا وضعیتش باعث تبدیل او به یک دیو هنگام عصبانی شدن می‌شود. کاترین پس از ملاقات با وی یک معامله میکند: کاترین راز او را در صورتی نگه خواهد داشت که بتواند به او در خصوص پیدا کردن قاتل مادرش کمک کند. همکاری آنها ادامه پیدا میکند و البته این دو طبق کلیشه‌ها بعد از مدتی دلبسته یکدیگر می‌شوند و…
